In a commentary, Diwa Guinigundo, Member of the Advisory Panel of SMU’s Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics, opined that the appropriate response to Anti Money Laundering Council (AMLC) Executive Director Ronel Buenaventura's testimony before the Senate, sitting as an impeachment court in the case against Vice President Sara Duterte, is not to demonise the institution but to examine the numbers. He stressed that the AMLC is a statutory part of the Philippines’ financial accountability framework, and that confidentiality laws should not prevent lawful examination of financial intelligence by competent authorities.
