Founding of Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics

SKBI is named after the late Mr Sim Kee Boon to honour the many contributions he had made to the economy of Singapore. It is set up as a leading think-tank in the area of financial economics and financial econometrics in Asia, and is the first establishment in Singapore to be named after Mr Sim since his passing in November 2007.

Vision and Spirit

Mr Sim is a big picture leader with vision and business acumen. Under his leadership, within just two years the then Keppel Shipyard swam out from a loss to a profit. “WHAT’S THE PROBLEM? HOW CAN WE MOVE ON FROM HERE?'' was always his emphasis, according to many of his co-workers. He also believed in excellence and quality and knew his customer well. Commenting on the success of the Changi Airport, he said, “we instilled, right from the start, a mindset among airport management and agencies involved - even the private retailers - that the comfort, convenience and well-being of the passenger must be paramount”. SKBI’s mandate is to conduct applied financial research driven by industry and societal needs, in the current rapidly evolving global financial landscape. The vision and spirit of Mr Sim match perfectly with our mission. It is our honour to carry on the legacy of such a great legend.
