 A new journal in 2023: Journal of Financial Literacy and Wellbeing

As financial literacy research is growing rapidly, SKBI is proud to be involved in launching a new journal in this field, which was first announced at our Asia Pacific Financial Education Institute.

 

Greening energy infrastructure conference

 1st Conference on Greening Energy Infrastructure

A 1.5-day closed-door conference which brought together more than 70 academics, policymakers, and industry experts from Singapore and across the region to network and discuss sustainable energy solutions.

 1st Financial Literacy course of its kind to be offered at a local university

FNCE316 is an SMU-X course designed to teach undergraduates the basic concepts of personal financial literacy and how to translate this into practical solutions for real organizations at the forefront of financial innovation.

 

MAIAs

1st Money Awareness and Inclusion Awards (MAIAs)

SKBI helped launch the MAIAs to celebrate the increasingly important work being done to help people understand money better, and benefit from the financial system. SKBI Director, Dave Fernandez, was a judge at the inaugural awards this year.

 Conference on Digital Finance and Sustainability

Featuring new research on digital finance and its implications for sustainable and inclusive economic growth, selected papers presented will be featured in a special issue of the journal, Sustainability.

 

SGFC research on JTT

 Research on Just Transition Transaction in Southeast Asia

Using South Africa as a reference case study, the authors develop a framework to evaluate the JTT’s suitability for supporting a green transition in key South-East Asian countries. Read the full paper here.

Journal article on responsible hedge funds

 Research on Responsible hedge Funds

Published in the Review of Finance, this journal article is co-authored by SGFC co-director, Hao Liang. Findings suggest that some hedge funds endorse responsible investment to pander to investor preferences. Read it here. 

APFEI 2022

3rd Asia Pacific Financial Education Institute

The conference featured new academic research in the emerging field of Financial Education, with papers covering topics like Retirement Planning Tools, Fintech Nudges including Overspending Messages & more.

AFLP 8th cohort

8th Cohort of the Asian Financial Leaders Programme

With overseas travel resumed, participants were able to proceed with their overseas modules this year. Prof Dave Fernandez taught a session during Module 1 on the topic of global macroeconomics.

CFS 9th symposium

9th Citi Foundation-SMU Financial Literacy Programme Symposium

This year’s symposium, titled “Rise of a Generation: Adaptability in an Accelerated World”, attracted over 150 participants and focused on topics such as financial resilience, navigating risks of crypto & NFTs, and more.
