International Standardization of Blockchains and Operations
of Payment Card Infrastructure

by Dr. Pietu Pohjalainen
Senior Enterprise Architect, Nets (Nordic digital payments company)

SYNOPSIS

The presentation gives a view of International Standardization Organization's Technical Committee 307, which has been set on to standardize blockchains and distributed ledgers.

We will look into the structure of ISO technical committees and gain understanding how the standardization work will continue.

In the latter part of the talk, we will study how payment card infrastructure operates, using issuer and acquirer agreements. We deep dive into a blockchain-based solution of providing know-your-customer compliance in the case of anonymized prepaid card issuance. This part gives a concrete example of how a public blockchain can be used to protect privacy of individuals while avoiding vendor lock-in as often encountered with traditional solutions.
