Augmented Intelligence and The Ethical Dogma in the Financial Paradigm

by Dr David Roi Hardoon
Chief Data Officer and Head of Data Analytics Group
Monetary Authority of Singapore

SYNOPSIS

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) discourse has now evolved to explore ways to unbox the ‘black box’, develop a deeper understanding and consequently, the ethical implications of our data-driven innovations. In the financial space, immediate challenges include how we can promote further financial inclusion (as opposed to exclusion) and how to deal with the future of manpower in the AI age. This necessitates a need for an evolved form of AI known as Augmented Intelligence. The presentation touches on subjects such as a comparison of (old) AI vs. (new) AI and what it means for the financial industry, with some focus on the ethical implications and considerations. It will also discuss the views and initiatives that MAS is taking to put in place appropriate regulation and facilitate healthy development of analytics in the financial industry.
