Amid the market turmoil on worries over the eurozone debt crisis, markets in Asia have come under pressure, as investors moved away from equities in search of safe havens. Mr Hugh Young, managing director of Aberdeen Asset Management, and Mr Gerard Lee, CEO of Lion Global Investors share their views on asset management in Asia . [They were speaking at the  Asset Management Conference organised by the Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics at SMU].

A preliminary study by Singapore Management University and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore showed that external uncertainties chief executives care about are macroeconomics, competitors and customers while internally it is how to manage people.

Stakeholders need to show up if they are to fully exercise their rights as shareholders, vote on resolutions and interact with the company's directors. But at any given company's AGM, it is typical for only 10 per cent of its shareholders to show up, says Jeremy Goh, academic director of the Centre for Corporate and Investor Responsibility, Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics at SMU.
