In Memory of Assistant Professor Aurobindo Ghosh

The Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics (SKBI) mourns the passing of Assistant Professor Aurobindo Ghosh who was instrumental in various SKBI Initiatives over the years.

Professor Ghosh was Principal Investigator of the DBS-SKBI Singapore Index of Inflation Expectations (SInDEx) Survey which was instrumental in advancing public understanding of the Singapore economy for more than 15 years. He was also a familiar voice in the media, where he was well-regarded for his ability to make economic ideas accessible to a wider audience.

Besides his teaching role at SMU, he was deeply committed to shaping young minds by helping to advance knowledge in financial inclusion while developing evidence-based programmes that empowered young adults. He played a significant role in the SMU Financial Literacy, Inclusion and Technology (SMU FinLit) Programme and believed that financial knowledge had the power to transform lives.

To many of the students in the programme, he was more than a respected educator. He was a trusted mentor, a source of wisdom, and a compassionate friend, always taking the time to encourage, support, and uplift those around him. His impact is perhaps best captured in the words of the SMU FinLit Programme students: "We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to have learned from him and to have benefited from his generosity, insights, and unwavering commitment to financial education. His influence extends far beyond the classroom and will continue to live on through the many lives he touched and the values he instilled in others. While he will be greatly missed, we shall continue to carry forward his legacy of financial empowerment, promoting the values of financial literacy and inclusion, that he so passionately championed."

He was also the Academic Director of the Inclusive and Immersive Experiential Learning (I2XL) Programme since its inception in 2019. Recognising the value of global exposure in shaping future leaders, he championed the programme to provide students from India with the opportunity to experience Singapore's vibrant business ecosystem and world-class education firsthand, while equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and global outlook needed to thrive in an increasingly fragmented and fast-evolving economic landscape.
