The Citi Foundation-SMU Financial Literacy Program for Young Adults was featured on Channel 8 on 23 November 2020, with the title: “Different age groups have different financial management views amid pandemic, Generation Z is calm, millennials are more cautious”.

Student trainer Christopher Yap, who was Vice President for Events at the Citi Foundation-SMU FinLit Club, shared that he has improved his financial management skills through financial management courses jointly organised by the University and the industry. He is adept at using digital tools on financial literacy, and has adjusted his allocations for savings, investments and expenditure in view of the pandemic.

Asst Prof Aurobindo Ghosh, Program Director of Citi Foundation-SMU Financial Literacy Program for Young Adults, commented that Generation Z has started to invest earlier compared to previous generations, and they enjoy the advantage of having 40 to 45 years of runway till their retirement. For Generation X, Asst Prof Ghosh opined that they are more untrusting of online tools because of the fear of being cheated due to their unfamiliarity with these tools.
