What are the similarities between financial literacy and forming a good habit like good hygiene? Asst Prof Aurobindo Ghosh, Program Director of the Citi Foundation-SMU Financial Literacy Program for Young Adults, explains “Just as how good hygiene helps you maintain your physical and mental well-being, financial literacy is the first step of financial wellness.” In an interview with the SMU Social Media team, he shares the importance of acquiring financial literacy knowledge early and tackles some of the misconceptions surrounding the topic.
While young adults and the upcoming Gen Z are empowered with a multitude of digital tools to manage their money and investments, they are lacking in sound financial knowledge at the same time. According to this survey by the American Psychological Association, four out of five Gen Z consumers say money matters are a leading source of stress.
